Well I do not know if it is the best method, but I set up an automatic transfer of money every paycheck from my checking account into my savings account.
I stopped eating in restaurants. Its amazing how much money you can save. I also put my self on a "only if I need to to survive" budget. Every purchase I made I asked my self if I needed it to survive. If the answer was no … I did not purchase.
The money saved added up very quickly , and the tight control of my money is a much needed skill to not only purchase the house but to keep it and maintain it.
